BEDFORDSHIRE COUNTY FEDERATION OF WOMEN’S INSTITUTES Annual Council Meeting 2024 Monday 29th April 2024 Kings House, 245 Ampthill Road, Bedford MK42 9AZ 1:30pm –3:30pm Doors open at 1:00pm. Coffee Shop will be available. *** OBSERVER BOOKING *** Guest speaker for the afternoon is Esme Young. Esme Young is one part of BBC 2’s ‘Great British Sewing Bee’ judging duo. The show follows a group of talented amateur sewers who encounter different sewing challenges each week. Esme, along with four women passionate about fashion, opened a London based shop called ‘Swanky Modes’ in early 80’s. Their clothes appeared in many high-profile magazines and newspapers and were photographed by renowned photographers such as David Bailey. In the mid 80’s Esme started doing work with independent stylists and costume designers and opened her own studio. She began working with various talent on films, adverts, pop videos and made bespoke clothes. Esme makes costumes for films, ensuring the context, cultural and fashion references of the film’s time and setting are correct. She has worked on high profile campaigns such as Levi’s and Boots No 7. Esme developed sewing and pattern cutting techniques for underwear and swimwear to work on special projects for ‘Triumph underwear’ and ‘L’Oreal’. In her free time, Esme teaches Innovative Pattern Cutting to graduates and professional students at Central Saint Martin’s College helping students to interpret their drawings to develop the designs into actual garments. There will be a presentation of certificates, a raffle and the Federation Flutter draw. This listing is for OBSERVER PLACES ONLY. Observer tickets are : members £12 each and friends and family £14.00 each. Delegate tickets are available on a separate listing. Each WI is invited to send a delegate to this event free of charge. We look forward to seeing you there. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT TAKE PAYMENT WHEN BOOKING, we will contact you to provide payment options. If you are not a when asked for the name of your WI please enter"none" and we will contact you direct regarding the invoice. If you are a WI member booking is available via your WI Secretary or by selecting "book now". This will generate an invoice for your WI Treasurer - please inform them you have made the booking as tickets are non-refundable. Tickets are Non Refundable.
